First game of the season and the temperature was really high with a lot of humidity and also the pitch was trash (spanish teams always do this when they have to face Barça, which is something La Liga should put a stop to it). Of course Flick has to say it's not acceptable for the players to not play to the fullest, but once you're 2 goals up and the other team has 2 players less, it's the smart thing to do to reserve energies for what lies ahead.

While conserving energy is important, it was clear the players were eager to score individually. Personally, I would’ve preferred if Flick had subbed out all the key players instead of chasing a high score. This match was ideal for giving them a break,we need them well rested for more crucial games ahead.

Besides, no there is no need for there to be a foul to believe there is reason for the play to stop. A player dropped on the field completely immobile. There was reasonable concern it could be a concussion. This is football, not a Gladiator Match. Play should've stopped, period.

He decided the way he did and was fully entitled to that. Also, nothing terrible happened, such episodes occur pretty often, and oftentimes refs allow to finish them up not whistling right away.
